The Asian continent is home to some of the world’s most beautiful and populous countries. It’s also home to various cultures, languages, and religions. With so many different people and places, it’s no wonder that Asia is also home to some of the cleanest countries in the world. While some countries in Asia are known for their pollution and environmental issues, there are also a number of countries that are considered to be clean and green. These countries have made great strides in recent years to improve their infrastructure and environmental policies to be more sustainable and livable for their citizens and visitors alike. In fact, according to the Environmental Performance Index (EPI), there are only a handful of Asian nations that can be considered truly clean.  Here are the 10 cleanest countries in Asia, according to the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) 2023.

Japan

Japan is the cleanest country in Asia according to the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) 2023. The EPI is a global ranking of countries based on their environmental performance. Japan ranked first out of 30 Asian countries. In the 2023 index, Japan received a score of 57.20 out of 100, compared to the average score for all Asian countries of 50.72.

Factors that contributed to Japan’s high ranking in EPI include its air quality, water and sanitation, waste management, forest area, and biodiversity conservation. Japan has pledged to make the country carbon-neutral by 2050. To achieve this, Japan will need to increase its use of renewable energy, improve energy efficiency, and promote electric vehicles. These measures will help not only reduce greenhouse gas emissions but also improve air quality and reduce environmental pollution.
