Creux du Van is a cirque in the Swiss Alps. It is situated in the Vaud canton, between Lake Geneva and the city of Montreux. Creux du Van is a natural amphitheatre. The name Creux du Van translates to “the valley of the cows”. The region surrounding Creux du Van has a long history dating back to the Bronze Age. The first inhabitants of the area were Celtic tribes. Later, the Romans settled in the region and built a fortification called Vindonissa. Creux du Van is a beautiful example of nature’s wonder. The amphitheater is formed by cliffs that are up to 400 meters high. The cliffs are made of limestone and are home to many different species of plants and animals. The area was formed by glacial erosion during the last ice age. The cirque is about 3 kilometers wide and 1 kilometer long. It is surrounded by cliffs up to 400 meters high. The highest point of the cirque is the Grande Tête du Van, which rises to 1,700 meters above sea level. Creux du Van is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. There are several trails leading up to the cirque, and it can be easily reached in a day hike from the nearby town of Les Diablerets.
